The next vegan meal I had in Portland was at a cute, hipster restaurant called Harlow. It was located in Southeast Portland in an area called Hawthorne, Richmond. This place was super packed for brunch! It was a stand in line, order, and find your own table type of place. They offer many brunch and lunch items like scrambles, pancakes, rancheros, soups, sandwiches, salads, etc. Their entire menu is vegan with the exception of some entrees having the option of choosing egg over another vegan protein.

Some example entrees are their Outlaw Scramble made with your choice of farm fresh eggs or smokey tempeh or seasoned jackfruit scrambled with chipotle black bean chili, dark greens, spinach, guacamole, pepitas, scallions, cilantro & jalapeño cashew cheese, and served with rice or quinoa and their Harlow Rancheros made with your choice of farm fresh poached eggs or smokey tempeh or seasoned jackfruit served over corn tortillas with ranchero sauce, stewed black beans & corn, kale, guacamole, jalapeño cashew cheese, fresh cilantro & pickled jalapeños. They also have a separate menu for beverages and smoothies such as their Matcha Latte made with Mizuba green tea matcha, cashew-hazelnut or coconut mylk & honey syrup or Stumblebee made with peanut butter, cacao nibs, cocoa powder, coffee, banana.
I ordered:
Urban Bowl – mixed greens, steamed greens, olive oil, kimchi, sea vegetables, avocado, carrots, scallions, sunflower seeds & za’atar with a choice of sauce
Chipotle Chili Bowl – choice of brown rice or quinoa, chipotle black bean chili, steamed greens, guacamole, scallions, cilantro, house chimichurri & jalapeño cashew cheese
Harlow Mac – made to order with organic quinoa pasta, kale, Daiya cheese, garlic, rice milk, almond parmesan & house spice blend.
I loved both the Urban Bowl and the Chipotle Chili Bowl. I’m a big sauce person so I really enjoyed variety of sauce options they offered.
Sauce options for bowls – lemon ginger, garlic tahini, avocado cilantro, sunflower chili cream, jalapeño cashew cheese, scallion garlic cashew cream

What really swept me away at Harlow was their Harlow Mac. I have to say it was one of the best, if not the best, vegan mac & cheese I’ve had. It was actually better than any regular mac and cheese I’ve ever had! You also have the option to add chili to make it a chili mac or add pesto to make it a pesto mac. If you decide to get Harlow a visit, don’t miss out on their Harlow Mac!
