Tamarind is a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Downtown Calgary. There’s only around 5 tables inside. I don’t think I would have found it if it wasn’t for Yelp. I noticed a lot of people order take-out from here since it’s such a small place.
The restaurant serves vegan Vietnamese food.
We ordered:
Fresh Paradise Rolls – Bean thread noodles tossed with shredded tofu, taro roots, roasted ground rice, fresh lettuce, and basil, wrapped in rice paper. Served with lime vinaigrette dipping sauce.
Green Papaya Salad – Tofu, Vietnamese fresh herbs, green papaya, fried shallots, served with house special sauce.
Tamarind House Special Noodle Soup – Mock beef and Vietnamese “ham”, bean curd sleeves, vegetables, rice noodles, served with bean sprouts, Vietnamese basil, cilantro, and jalapeno.
The Fresh Paradise Rolls were great bite sized appetizers. I had the Green Papaya Salad as my main meal and it was enough to fill me up. My boyfriend really enjoyed the soup of this Tamarind House Special Noodle Soup. This dish is their version of Pho. It was super flavorful.
The food and ingredients at Tamarind were light and refreshing. If you’re looking for some Vietnamese food in Calgary, definitely come visit this hole-in-the-wall restaurant!
