The Himalayan

Never would I have imagined that my first time trying Himalayan food would be in Calgary, AB Canada! The Himalayan is one of the most popular restaurants in Calgary. When I was looking up recommended places to eat, The Himalayan popped up multiple times. Of course I had to make sure there were vegan options and fortunately there were a lot!

The restaurant is open only for dinner and reservations are highly recommended. They are also closed on Mondays. Inside is spacious with dim lighting. Sorry if my pictures aren’t too clear! I tried my best.

We ordered:

Vegetable Momos – Steamed Nepali style dumplings filled with veggies, mozzarella cheese, herbs and spices and served with tomato and spice based sauce.

Jomsom Vegetables – stir-fry with grilled zucchini, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, onion, tomato and jimbu.

Himalayan Shrimp – creamy tomato, red wine, ginger and cashew nut sauce.

Vegetable Momos

The Vegetable Momos were basically dumplings with veggies and cheese inside. I had asked if it was possible to omit the cheese and our server told us the filling was pre-made so they couldn’t. I decided to order it anyways and picked out the cheese inside. After we finished our starter, we were served flatbread to eat with our main entrees. My Jomsom Vegetable entree was amazing. It was flavorful and healthy. It was great with the rice. My boyfriend really enjoyed the flatbread with his Himalayan Shrimp entree. He loved dipping the flatbread in the sauce.
